FAQs Before You Book
Is the piercing studio licensed and certified?
No, there is no such thing as a “certified professional piercer.” Additionally, due to local laws in Clinton County, piercing studios are not licensed. However, we are members of the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), a voluntary organization that sets and upholds the highest standards of safety and professionalism in the industry.
How do you ensure the equipment is sterile?
We are 100% disposable, meaning every tool and material we use is single-use and only for you. Most of our equipment, including needles, comes pre-sterilized and sealed. Additionally, we use medical-grade disinfectants and a medical-grade sterilizer to ensure the highest level of safety.
Do you use a piercing gun or a needle? Which is safer for children?
Piercing guns should never be used on humans—they were originally designed for tagging cattle, not for human tissue. We only use needles specifically designed for piercing. These needles are sharper, cause less trauma, and ensure a safer, quicker, and more precise experience.
Are your piercers trained in working with children?
Yes! Meghan has over 17 years of specialized industry education, with extensive training focused on children’s ear piercings.
What materials are used for the jewelry? Are they safe for sensitive skin?
We exclusively pierce with implant-grade titanium sourced from companies that meet APP’s strict safety standards. Titanium is nickel free, making it one of the safest options for sensitive skin.
How do you prevent infections during the procedure?
The number one cause of infections is touching or playing with the piercing during the healing process. We strongly recommend discouraging your child from touching, twisting, or playing with their new piercing.
What do I do if my childs ears become infected?
We are not medical professionals and can not diagnose your child. We suggest reaching out to your primary care doctor to confirm and usually the earring is safe to keep in while on antibiotics.
What measures do you take to ensure a hygienic environment?
We provide the most sterile environment possible. All tools and materials are single-use, and our studio is cleaned with medical-grade disinfectants.
Are gloves changed between clients?
Yes, gloves are changed multiple times throughout the piercing process to ensure cleanliness and hygiene.
What certifications does your staff hold for piercing?
Our staff holds multiple certificates of education through the APP, including Bloodborne Pathogens training and CPR/First Aid certification, ensuring your child’s safety throughout the procedure.
Do you use single-use needles for each piercing?
Yes, we only use single-use needles designed specifically for piercing. These needles are sharper, less traumatic to the skin, and have a Teflon coating to create a smoother, quicker piercing experience.
The Piercing Process
Does the procedure hurt, and how do you minimize discomfort for kids?
Yes, the piercing does cause brief discomfort, but it’s completed in a matter of seconds. We highly recommend the use of numbing cream to minimize discomfort. Our recommended numbing cream is EBANEL, and we suggest purchasing it ahead of time and applying it to your child’s ears following the package instructions.
Can I stay with my child during the piercing?
Of course! We encourage parents to stay with their child, and we welcome the entire family to join in for support. We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for your child. If someone important can’t attend in person, feel free to FaceTime them during the appointment.
Do you pierce both ears at the same time for young children?
We do offer tandem piercing days Tuesday and Thursday 4-6 where two piercers work together to pierce both ears at the same time. However, most of the time, Meghan works solo and performs one ear at a time. Even so, the process is very quick and efficient.
How do you calm or prepare anxious children for the piercing process?
Here are are some tips to help prepare and calm your child:
Talk positively: Explain to them that it will be quick and that they’ll get to pick out special earrings.
Practice at home: Pretend to “mark” their ears at home and explain what happens next in a playful way.
Bring distractions: Toys, snacks, or a favorite stuffed animal can help comfort your child.
Reward system: Let them know they can have a fun treat we have lollipops too or activity after the piercing.
We’re happy to answer any questions your child has during the appointment to help ease their nerves!
What if my child backs out after we have gotten there?
Your child has the right to change their mind at any time—we will never force them to continue if they are uncomfortable. However, due to the high volume of our shop and the time set aside for your appointment, the $40 piercing fee still applies even if the procedure is not completed.
What happens if only one ear gets pierced and my child doesn’t want to do the second?
If your child decides to stop after getting only one ear pierced, you will still be charged the full piercing price at the time of your appointment. Should your child decide to return for the second piercing later, they must wait a minimum of one month. There is a $20 sterilization/supply fee for the second appt. If you fear your child is going to back out on the second we HIGHLY recommend the numbing cream!
How long does the procedure take?
The entire process, including choosing jewelry and aftercare instructions, typically takes about 20 minutes. However, the actual piercing for both ears is completed in under 30 seconds.
What is the youngest age you will pierce a child’s ears?
We pierce children starting at 3 months old and up.
Do you numb the area before piercing? What methods do you use?
As we are not medical professionals, we cannot apply numbing cream for you. However, we recommend purchasing numbing cream, such as [insert product name], prior to your appointment. Follow the application instructions provided on the package to ensure the best results.
What happens if my child moves during the procedure?
It’s completely natural for children to move, and Meghan is highly trained to handle such situations with care and precision. In rare cases where excessive movement results in a misaligned or crooked piercing, a re-piercing may be necessary.
Do you provide consultations beforehand to explain the process?
Due to our studio’s high volume, we don’t offer in-person consultations. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out to us ahead of your appointment.
How do you mark the placement of the piercing, and can parents approve it before piercing?
We use single-use, disposable markers that are safe for the skin to mark the piercing placement. We always encourage parents to review and approve the marks before the piercing to ensure they’re happy with the placement.
What if my childs ears are crooked?
While we take every precaution to ensure even, well-placed piercings, mistakes can happen—especially with young children and babies, who may move unpredictably during the process. Although rare, it’s important to assess whether the piercing is truly off or if swelling is making it appear that way. If you’re concerned, contact us right away. Send us a clear picture of the front and back of the piercings so we can evaluate the placement. If swelling is the cause, it should improve with time. However, if the piercings are truly uneven, we’ll guide you through the next steps, which may include removing the jewelry and waiting for the tissue to heal before re-piercing.
Your child’s comfort and confidence matter to us—we’re here to help!
Freezing/Numbing Cream
For younger children, we recommend that you use a numbing product like Ebanel You must ensure that you apply this correctly and using their suggestion of Saran Wrap with it so that you seal off the area in order for the cream to work properly. You will apply this one hour before the appointment and we will remove the bandage in the piercing room.
